We are excited to let you know that Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria is gearing up for another session of Go Girls Online! Go Girls is a FREE 7-week program designed for female-identifying youth between the ages of 11-15. The group meets weekly for 1 hour and 15 minutes on an online platform. Groups consist of up to 12 participants and 3 mentors. BBBS Mentors are fully screened (Vulnerable Sector Check and thorough Reference checks included), trained, and supported by their agency staff. With an increase in the need for mental health support throughout the continuing pandemic, the focus of the online program is to keep youth connected with each other and their community. As we are not yet capable of running our program in all Greater Victoria middle schools, the online program provides an opportunity to support youth who would not otherwise have access to these programs. Matches focus on building group connection by playing games, crafting, journaling and talking/discussions. Parents have reported that after participating in Go Girls, their youth has experienced increased support, self-esteem, interpersonal skills, and leadership skills, as well as an overall happier mood. One parent stated that “These are extraordinary times we are living in…Go Girls provided my daughter with a safe & supportive environment to be herself and to be vulnerable. This program also allowed her to just let go and be in the moment - connecting, creating, laughing! Once a week the opportunity to adventure outside her regular friend group in this crazy world was very special."
This program is run by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria and Area; an organization with over 45 years’ experience of mentoring and creating a positive impact in the lives of children and youth. Please see the attached flyer for more program details.
Spring sessions will begin the week of May 9th. The program coordinator will be in contact with those who register in the coming weeks with more information about what to expect for the Spring sessions.
