WHAT IS MUSIC DISCOVERIES? Does your child love to make music? Do they want to meet and perform with other students from across the Greater Victoria Area who share their interests? Does your child want to experience new musical challenges while working with and learning from university level musicians and master conductors? Do they want to know what comes next in their musical training? Then this is the place for them! Music Discoveries is a 3-day music day-camp facilitated by the University of Victoria Student Music Educators’ Association (UVSMEA), and is generously supported by the Uvic Don Wright Endowment Fund. Some highlights of Music Discoveries 2019 include: The opportunity to play or sing in a large ensemble (Concert Band, Concert Choir or String Orchestra) with middle school students from across the Greater Victoria Area; Instrument/voice workshops led by skilled, enthusiastic UVic Music Education Students; Choose Your Own Adventure sessions which explore different facets of music; A short evening concert on the Saturday featuring our dedicated and well-trained UVic Music student volunteers that will show what your child's instrument(s) can do at a university level; A Music Discoveries t-shirt; Pizza Dinner on the Saturday evening; Participation in a final concert on the Sunday
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN MUSIC DISCOVERIES? All MIDDLE SCHOOL students in grade 6, 7 and 8 that are currently enrolled in a school music program are welcomed to join us for this fun, music-filled weekend! WHEN IS MUSIC DISCOVERIES 2019 AND HOW DO I REGISTER? Registration is opening on October 28th for Music Discoveries 2019, which will take place January 25th-27th, 2019! The early registration cost is only $30 and is open until December 23rd, 2018. Any registration from December 24th through January 11th will cost $45. January 11th will be the last day before registration closes. There is a maximum of 80 Concert Band spots, 60 Concert Choir spots and 40 Strings spots available, so register early to guarantee your child gets their desired musical focus!
