Hello Music Educators! We would be so grateful if you could please forward this email to the parents of your students, or anyone else that you know who may be interested. We work to make this an affordable music making opportunity for all middle school students and appreciate your support in spreading the word. Also, please let us know if you have any questions or want us to visit any of your classes. Additionally, we would like to ask whether we are able to attend any of your upcoming concerts and either hand out flyers, advertise for Music Discoveries, or both. Please let us know if this is possible, and if so, when we are able to come! This year's Music Discoveries will be held on January 26th-28th, 2018, and it will be celebrating its 10th anniversary! Registration and more information can be found at https://musicdiscoveriesblog.wordpress.com/. WHAT IS MUSIC DISCOVERIES? Does your child love to make music? Do they want to make music with other students from across the Greater Victoria Area who love what they love? Does your child want to have new musical experiences while working with and learning from music students at the university level as well as master conductors? Do they want to know what comes next in their musical learning? Music Discoveries is a 3-day music day-camp facilitated by the University of Victoria Student Music Educators’ Association (UVSMEA). WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN MUSIC DISCOVERIES? All MIDDLE SCHOOL students in grade 6, 7 and 8 that are currently enrolled in a school music program are welcomed to join us for a fun music-filled weekend! The cost is only $40 and includes: The opportunity to play or sing in a large ensemble (Concert Band, Concert Choir or String Orchestra) with middle school students from across the Greater Victoria Area; Instrument/voice workshops led by skilled, enthusiastic University Music Education Students; Choose Your Own Adventure sessions which allow students to explore a different aspect of music: either Rock Band, Orff Ensemble, Spoken Word Ensemble, Recycled Percussion, or Sound-scaping (composition); A short evening concert on the Saturday by our dedicated and well-trained UVic music education student volunteers that will show what your child's instrument can do at a university level; A t-shirt; Participation in a final concert on the Sunday; Lunch and dinner on the Saturday and lunch on the Sunday–what a deal!
WHEN IS MUSIC DISCOVERIES 2018? Music Discoveries 2018 is happening January 26th-28th, 2018 (Friday evening, all-day Saturday, Sunday morning/early afternoon). EARLY REGISTRATIONends on December 23, 2017 – don’t miss out! Late registration closes January 24, 2018. Registration is only $40 if you register by December 23, so register today! There is a maximum of 80 Concert Band spots, 60 Concert Choir spots and 40 Strings spots available, so register early to guarantee your child gets their desired musical focus! (Last year, the Concert Band reached full capacity!) Registration from December 24 through January 24 will be $50. The cost is kept so low due to the generous support of the UVic Don Wright Endowment Fund for Music Education.
