The Band 6A1 class that had band this week (not in PE) have successfully learned the exercises in the TOE book up to and including #9. Students should practice those exercises so that they can play them confidently. Brass players are encouraged to use the BANDMATE app (it's free) to match the pitch. If your young musician feels confident with these exercises, please encourage them to keep going ahead in the book.

At home practice should occur regularly (ideally everyday but I know families are busy so find a schedule that works best for your situation). I recommend short bursts of practice in the early stages as the muscles can fatigue easily. 15-20 minutes is a good length of time.

Remind your musician to swab their instrument to remove moisture and bacteria. Reed players dry the reed and store it in the plastic sleeve. Brass players release the water key and rinse out the mouthpiece (only the mouthpiece) with warm water and the wire brush.

Keep up the great work!
